Strengths and watch-outs in the UK

  • ✓ Publishes its price range openly: EOR from $319 to $639 per employee per month and Contractor of Record from $149, with no onboarding, offboarding, setup or termination fees, monthly billing and no annual contract.
  • ✓ Part of a group that states it owns 38 legal entities and runs in-country teams after the April 2026 consolidation of Eos, Serviap and Hightekers' EOR operations, giving it more owned infrastructure than many mid-sized providers.
  • ✓ Broad service range for the UK from one supplier: EOR, Contractor of Record, contractor payments, visa support, recruitment, benefits and an HR dashboard.
  • ✓ Its UK guide is detailed and current, updated 28 September 2026 with 2026-27 National Insurance, pension, statutory pay and redundancy figures, IR35 guidance and realistic Skilled Worker visa timelines of 4 to 12 weeks.
  • ✓ Strong aggregate review record: 4.9/5 from 110 G2 reviews and 4.9/5 from 83 Capterra reviews, with ease of use and payroll management the most cited strengths.
  • ✓ Support model built on named humans rather than tickets: a dedicated account manager and 24/7 support by Slack, WhatsApp, email and phone (provider claim).
  • ✗ The UK employing entity is not disclosed: no company is registered under the Rivermate name at Companies House, and the UK page refers to a network of UK partners, so a client cannot verify from public records whether it is employed by an owned entity or a partner.
  • ✗ The quoted UK onboarding time of 1 to 3 weeks is slower than the 3 to 4 day figure Rivermate gives for standard EOR onboarding elsewhere on its site, and slower than some competitors' published UK timelines.
  • ✗ No UK-specific price is published; the EOR fee is a wide global range that varies by country and headcount, and a refundable deposit equal to one month's payroll plus the first month's costs is required up front.
  • ✗ No UK-specific review was found on G2, and the most common complaints there are delays in responses affecting contract approvals and payouts and weak reporting features.
  • ✗ Security certifications such as ISO 27001 or SOC 2 are not stated on the pages reviewed, and whether Rivermate holds its own UK sponsor licence for Skilled Worker visas is not published.

China profile

Rivermate is an Amsterdam-headquartered Employer of Record provider founded in 2020 by Lucas Botzen. Its contracting entity is Rivermate B.V., Dutch registration number 78545609, Herengracht 420, 1017 BZ Amsterdam, per the published EOR master services agreement. Hightekers acquired Rivermate (December 2023 on Rivermate's timeline; 2024 per Staffing Industry Analysts), then Eos Global Expansion in April 2025 and Serviap Global in December 2025, and on 28 April 2026 consolidated all three EOR businesses under the Rivermate brand. The group states 38 wholly owned entities, 150+ partners, 180+ countries and 3,500+ workers (provider claims); the CEO is Sebastien Wakim and the chairman is Roger Oudiz.

For mainland China, Rivermate's infrastructure page lists China among the countries where it operates directly, backed by its own local infrastructure, and its China guide (last updated 5 October 2026) states that it hires through its own local entity and provides a local business entity in China (provider claims). No Chinese legal name, unified social credit code, registered address, legal representative or labour dispatch licence is published, and the guide does not say whether hires are placed under labour dispatch or labour outsourcing. A legacy page at /employer-of-record/china still carries the line that Rivermate currently does not offer any services in this country, which contradicts the guide. The guide names Shanghai, Shenzhen and Beijing as the main hiring hubs and covers the five social insurances plus housing fund at regional rates, IIT of 3 to 45 percent, seven-day hiring timelines, monthly social insurance cut-offs, e-signature limits and the need for a justified, documented reason for any termination.

Rivermate's pricing page quotes EOR from $319 to $639 per employee per month with no setup or offboarding fees; its China blog says China EOR typically starts at EUR 299, and the legacy page shows EUR 399. The EOR agreement requires a Fee Deposit, set in each scope of work, within five days of signing, returned within 60 days of final payment. G2 shows 4.9/5 from 94 reviews, none mentioning China. Capterra shows 4.9/5 from 86 reviews; Trustpilot has suspended Rivermate's rating after removing fake reviews.

China facts

Chinese employing entityRivermate's infrastructure page lists China under countries where it operates directly, with support backed by its own local infrastructure, and the China guide states that an EOR hires on your behalf through its own local entity and that Rivermate helps employers by providing a local business entity in China (provider claims). No Chinese legal name is published on any page reviewed, and no FESCO, CIIC or other partner is named for China. The group's 38 owned entities are not listed by country, so it could not be established whether the Chinese entity is a Rivermate, Hightekers or former Eos Global Expansion company.
Business registrationNot published. No unified social credit code (统一社会信用代码) or Chinese company name appears on the China guide, the infrastructure page, the pricing page or the EOR agreement, and web searches for Rivermate with 有限公司, WFOE and labour dispatch returned no registry record. The Dutch contracting entity is Rivermate B.V., registration number 78545609 (EOR agreement).
Registered officeNot published for China. The group's address is Herengracht 420, 1017 BZ Amsterdam, Netherlands (site footer and EOR agreement); Trustpilot lists an older address at Burgemeester Loeffplein 70E, 5211 RX, 's-Hertogenbosch.
FoundedNot published for the Chinese entity. Rivermate was founded in 2020; the group traces its history to 2010 through Eos Global Expansion and Serviap Global, and Hightekers was founded in 2016.
Company statusNot published for China; the entity could not be identified or checked against a Chinese registry from the sources available.
Legal representative / managementNot published for China. Group: Sebastien Wakim, CEO (leads the Hightekers group since 2024); Roger Oudiz, Chairman; Lucas Botzen, founder and signatory of the EOR agreement; Tun Lin Aung, Operations Manager APAC based in Myanmar, is credited for China country insights on the guide; Karl van der Weert, head of Customer Success, is the guide's author.
Dispatch licenceNot published. The China guide does not mention a labour dispatch licence (劳务派遣经营许可证), labour dispatch (劳务派遣) or labour outsourcing (劳务外包), and does not explain which regime the client-employee relationship falls under. The guide only states that employees are looked after by a reputable entity that understands all local laws and practices (provider claim). The legacy /employer-of-record/china page mentions FESCO only in the context of sponsoring a client's own subsidiary application, not as Rivermate's employer.
Contract typesThe legacy China page states that both fixed-term and non-fixed-term (open-ended) contracts are permitted, that a contract becomes open-ended after ten years' service or if the employer fails to sign a written contract within one year, and that probation is capped at one month for contracts of three months to one year, two months for one to three years and six months for three years or more, with no probation for contracts under three months. Salary must be stated in RMB. The current guide confirms that probation is addressed in its FAQ but does not state which contract types Rivermate itself issues.
Payroll and statutoryMonthly payroll in CNY. The guide lists employer contributions to pension, medical, unemployment, work-related injury and maternity insurance plus the housing fund (住房公积金), states that rates differ by region and that contributions must be paid to the region where the employee is registered, and that employee contributions are withheld by the employer. IIT is described as progressive from 3 to 45 percent with flat-rate deductions per bracket; the cumulative withholding method is not mentioned. The guide gives minimum wages as of September 2026 (lowest CNY 1,800, highest CNY 2,740 in Shanghai) and an average gross annual salary of CNY 129,441, and notes that monthly social insurance registration cut-offs can delay start dates. An employment cost calculator for China is embedded in the guide.
Compliance services statedEmployment contract, payroll, employer contributions, statutory benefits and filings, with quarterly and annual reporting; advice on all terminations, which the guide says require a justified and documented reason; handling of social insurance exemptions for the 11 nationalities covered by bilateral agreements as of September 2026; and noting that China's Electronic Signature Law can require wet signatures on some contracts. Work permit and Z visa sponsorship is described on the legacy page (employer-sponsored, 30-day Z visa converted to a residence permit, process around eight weeks) and visa support is a separate priced-on-request product.
Optional benefitsOptional global health insurance is listed on the pricing page. The guide says Rivermate's partner network allows it to provide competitive benefits (provider claim); the legacy page notes that supplementary health insurance may be supplied and that housing fund rates are often negotiated upwards. No China-specific supplementary benefits are itemised.
Other services in ChinaContractor of Record from $149 per contractor per month (EUR 199 on Capterra), contractor management (EUR 29 per contractor per month on Capterra), visa and immigration support priced on request (EUR 499 one-off on Capterra), global consulting and payroll-only options which the China blog says are available at a lower rate. No EOR-to-WFOE transition or entity set-up service is described; the guide says a client might consider its own entity at 30 or more employees and estimates entity set-up at three to 12 months and $40,000 to $100,000.
Stated onboarding timeTypically within seven days, and as little as seven days if all information is provided on time, subject to monthly social insurance registration cut-offs (China guide, provider claim).
Entry priceGroup EOR pricing from $319 to $639 per employee per month, varying by country, headcount, project and expat versus local hire, with no setup or offboarding fees (pricing page). The China blog states that China EOR pricing typically starts at EUR 299 per employee per month; G2 and Capterra list EUR 299; the legacy China page shows EUR 399. The EOR agreement requires a Fee Deposit in the amount set in each scope of work within five days of the scope of work effective date, returned within 60 days of final payment after termination, and states that services will not be supplied until the deposit is received; the initial term is 12 months, renewing annually.
Security certifications (group)No certification held in Rivermate's own name is published. The security page states GDPR compliance, TLS in transit, AES-256 at rest and hosting on AWS, which it describes as SOC 2 Type II, CSA CAIQ and ISO/IEC 27001 compliant.

Services in China

Employer of RecordRivermate states that it employs Chinese staff through its own local entity, which it lists as a direct operation (provider claim); the entity is not named. It drafts the employment contract, runs monthly CNY payroll, pays the five social insurances and housing fund at the rates of the employee's registration city, withholds employee contributions and IIT, and files quarterly and annual reports. Hiring is stated to take as little as seven days, subject to the monthly social insurance cut-off.
Termination managementThe China guide states that at-will dismissal does not exist in China, that every termination needs a justified and documented reason, and that Rivermate advises clients on all terminations. The legacy page sets out 30 days' notice (three days during probation) and severance of one month per year of service, capped by reference to three times the local average wage and 12 months.
Contractor of Record and contractor paymentsRivermate signs the contractor agreement itself to carry misclassification risk, from $149 per contractor per month, with payment in 120+ currencies and conversion of contractors to employees. Capterra lists Contractor of Record at EUR 199 and contractor management at EUR 29 per month. China-specific contractor terms are not published.
Visa and immigration supportPriced on request, covering eligibility assessment, work permit and visa application, liaison with authorities, renewals and dependant visas. The legacy China page describes employer-sponsored Z visas, the 30-day window to convert to a residence permit and an approximate eight-week process. Capterra lists a EUR 499 one-off fee.
Benefits administrationStatutory benefits are included; optional global health insurance is offered on the pricing page and the guide says a partner network provides competitive benefits. Annual leave (five to 15 days by total working life), 33 days of public holidays in 2026 and regional marriage, bereavement and sick leave are explained.
Pricing and deposit modelOne monthly fee per employee with no setup or offboarding fee, cancellable monthly per the pricing FAQ; a Fee Deposit set per scope of work must be paid within five days of signing and is returned within 60 days after the final invoice is settled. The master agreement is governed by Dutch law with arbitration in Rotterdam.

Strengths and watch-outs in China

  • ✓ Lists China among the countries where it operates directly with its own local infrastructure, and the China guide states that hires are employed through Rivermate's own local entity rather than a partner, which is more than many global platforms publish for mainland China (provider claims).
  • ✓ The China guide, last updated 5 October 2026, covers the five social insurances and housing fund at regionally varying rates, the rule that contributions follow the employee's registration city, minimum wages as of September 2026, the e-signature limitation, social insurance cut-offs and the social insurance exemptions for 11 nationalities.
  • ✓ Publishes a price range for EOR ($319 to $639 per employee per month) with no setup or offboarding fees, a China-specific indicative rate of EUR 299 on its blog, and its full EOR master services agreement including the deposit, term and termination clauses.
  • ✓ The guide carries named accountability: country insights are credited to Tun Lin Aung, Operations Manager APAC, and the page is reviewed by the CEO, with nine cited external sources including China Briefing and the National Bureau of Statistics.
  • ✓ Strong review record on G2 (4.9/5 from 94 reviews) and Capterra (4.9/5 from 86 reviews, 99 percent positive sentiment), with recurring praise for responsive human support and quick onboarding.
  • ✓ The group's April 2026 consolidation brings Eos Global Expansion's Asia operations (founded 2010) under one contract and platform, and the guide's statement that nationwide hiring normally needs several entities in different regions shows awareness of the city-level nature of Chinese compliance.
  • ✗ The Chinese employing entity could not be verified: Rivermate names no Chinese company, publishes no unified social credit code, registered address or legal representative, and says nothing about whether the entity holds a labour dispatch licence or places hires under labour outsourcing, so the own-entity claim rests entirely on the provider's word.
  • ✗ Rivermate's site contradicts itself on China: the guide describes direct operations, while the legacy page at /employer-of-record/china, still live on 20 October 2026, says Rivermate does not serve China and quotes EUR 399 against EUR 299 or $319 elsewhere; a deposit set per scope of work is payable before service starts, under a 12-month auto-renewing term.
  • ✗ Trustpilot has suspended Rivermate's rating for a breach of its guidelines and states that it removed a number of fake reviews; of the 22 reviews that remain, 27 percent are two-star, several citing slow communication, and one employee reported a month's salary paid late.

Reviews

  • G2 overall: 4.9/5 from 94 reviews. On 20 October 2026 the G2 listing showed 109 reviews at 4.9/5 and pricing supplied by Rivermate of EUR 299 per employee per month; a keyword filter for China returned no reviews, so no G2 review mentioning Chinese employment was found. Rivermate's own China guide cites 4.9/5 on G2 from 81 reviews.
  • Capterra: 4.9/5 from 86 reviews (page last updated 28 September 2026), 99 percent positive sentiment, ease of use 4.9, value for money 4.7, customer service 4.8; recurring cons are limited reporting depth and occasional bugs. Gartner Peer Insights: 4.4/5 from 25 ratings, with a 3.0 review in February 2026 citing limited health benefits. Google: 4.6/5 from 37 reviews cited on Rivermate's site.
  • Trustpilot (read 20 October 2026): rating unavailable because of a breach of Trustpilot's guidelines, with a notice that a number of fake reviews were removed; 22 reviews remain, 50 percent five-star and 27 percent two-star, including a 3/5 employee review of 26 March 2026 reporting February salary not yet paid and two-star reviews of late 2024 citing slow replies. No Reddit threads discussing Rivermate in China were found.

Reviews are reported as found and are not verified by the directory; the G2 figure is as supplied, the live G2 count was higher on the day of reading, and Trustpilot's suspension notice should be read alongside the high G2 and Capterra scores.
